The Pine Tree Council has joined the National Pilot for a new program. The Chipmunks program introduces families with children ages 4–5 to Scouting through playful learning, short activities, and meaningful family time.
Families today are busier than ever, and parents are searching for simple, meaningful ways to support early learning, social development, and positive childhood experiences. Chipmunks was built with exactly that in mind. It isn’t Cub Scouts for younger kids; it’s its own program—a Pre-K experience centered on hands-on learning, short activities, parent participation, and friendly forest characters who help little ones make sense of the world around them.
Chipmunks is a stand-alone, one-year Pre-K program designed specifically for 4- and 5-year-olds. The structure matches preschool-age children’s attention spans, motor skills, and natural curiosity. Everything is intentionally short, simple, hands-on, and joyful.
What Chipmunks is:
- A gentle introduction to Scouting’s spirit of curiosity, kindness, and community.
- A place where children practice social skills, listening, sharing, and cooperation.
- A weekly routine that helps kids build school readiness in a playful environment.
- A parent-involved program that strengthens family connection.
- A low-stress, easy-to-run model for councils and volunteers.
What Chipmunks is NOT:
- It is not Cub Scouts. There are no ranks, no advancement, and no uniforms aside from a simple neckerchief.
- It is not performance-based; recognition is participation-based and always positive.
- It is not adult-intensive; parents take turns with small, simple roles.
- It is not a drop-off program; a family adult is expected to participate each week. The design choice is intentional: Chipmunks should feel warm, age-appropriate, and welcoming — especially for families brand new to Scouting.
